“Begin, with the end in mind” is an often used quote from Stephen R Covey of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” fame.
This morning at a Family Business Australia Advisers Breakfast Workshop, I was reminded again by the case study discussed, that unless the end game can be envisaged, there may be no reason to action the changes required to reach the goal.
We are passing through a most confronting patch for many businesses. Some of the solid foundations seem to be shifting. The strategic thinkers that we speak with in quality business, are reviewing and constantly developing their end options.
The end may change, and modify but they are adjusting to achieve that goal, be it turnover, profit, staffing, ownership or, any of the many other emerging challenges.
Without a vision and a delivery method, quality results may be elusive. The success goals are well known to those who are quality focussed and begin their review with the end in mind.
